It's November…. How did that happen.
There are many things to love about November, the weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer, and the holidays are almost here. For me, my favourite thing about November is Thanksgiving. This is predominately a North American holiday, a time to spend with family and friends, and remember what you are thankful for. Growing up in a Kiwi American household we often celebrated Thanksgiving together with other American families.
Thanksgiving for me is a time of cooking, and having friends and family around. A time to remember fond moments growing up, to remember what I am thankful for, and to eat those foods that you only have (for good reason) at Thanksgiving.
To me out of all the American holidays, I think it should be the one we adapt as part of our culture. It’s a great and timely reminder for each of us, especially as it’s been a very different year. I put out some of my thanksgiving decorations during lockdown, as a reminder of all the things I have to be thankful for.
Can I encourage you to think about what you are thankful to God for in this season.
Psalm 9:1 (NIV) says
I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
I will be glad and rejoice in you;
I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.
